Digitizing for Sooke

Sooke is about half an hour out Highway 14 from my workshop, and I am the nearest person doing this work. On jobs of $99 or more I drive out and collect, and the drive is not on your bill.

Nobody Else Comes Out This Far

Sooke and the communities past it are the part of the region everyone else quietly leaves off the map. The shops are all in town, and the mail-away companies want you to drive to a post office and hand over your only copy of something.

I am on the same highway you are. Coming out to collect a collection from Sooke is a normal afternoon rather than a special arrangement, and it does not cost you anything extra.

Damp is the local enemy

Material stored out here has often spent years somewhere unheated. Mould on the edge of a tape pack and curled, stuck-together prints are the two things I see most. Both are frequently recoverable and both get much worse if they are played or pulled apart first.

One trip out, one trip back

No courier and no depot. I collect it, it lives in labelled bins in Colwood while I work on it, and I bring it back to you myself.

Tell me the whole pile

When you book, describe roughly everything you have, including the things you are unsure about. It is much better to look at the lot in one visit than to discover another three boxes after I have driven home.

How It Works

1

Drop-Off in Colwood

Use my online form to book a private drop-off time. This ensures I can review your items with you personally when you arrive.

2

Approve Estimate

Once I have your project, I don't just process it. I inspect the condition of every tape and page. If I find something that needs special attention, I’ll call you.

3

Enjoy and Share

You'll get a private link to everything, and a USB drive to keep if you want one. You can finally watch your memories on your phone, tablet, or TV.

What a job starts at.

Bring a collection to the Colwood workshop and a job starts at $49. If the work comes to $99 or more I will drive out and collect it myself, and the drive is not a line on your bill. Either way you get a written figure before I start anything, and looking is free.

Questions From Around Here

Is Sooke too far for you?

No. It is about half an hour and I make the drive for jobs of $99 or more without billing it. If your job is smaller than that, the workshop is on Metchosin Road in Colwood and works by appointment.

My tapes have been in a shed and smell musty. Are they gone?

Often not, but please do not play them to find out. Mould on a tape spreads through the pack and into the machine as soon as it turns. Tapes that need it get a cleaning pass here before anything plays, which protects the recording as much as the equipment.

I am on your highway.

Book a time and tell me roughly what there is. Over $99 I will come out to you and the drive is mine.
