Photos and media ready for digitization

What yours will cost

You never have to work it out yourself. I count every piece by hand and email you an itemized estimate, usually within 24 hours. Nothing is charged until you have seen it and said yes.

Three ordinary collections, and what they come to:

A shoebox of loose photos
300 photos
$315
$1.05 each
A box of video tapes
12 tapes
$402
$33.50 each, the price once you pass 10
A carousel of slides
140 slides
$182
$1.30 each

Yours will be its own number, built from your own count.

A job starts at $49 when you bring your collection to me in Colwood. That is about 50 photos, or 40 slides, or a tape or a reel.

Or $99 and I come to you: I pick the collection up, take a proper look at everything you have, and bring your originals back when the work is done.

Photos, Slides & Negatives

Loose Photo ArchivalHigh-resolution scanning at 600 dpi, for prints from wallet to 8.5x11.
$1.05/photo500+ photo at $0.95 each
Album Page (up to 8.5 x 11)I scan the whole page in one pass, photos left exactly where they are, so your layout and any handwriting stay with the picture.
$6.30/page100+ page at $5.80 each
Album Taken ApartPhotos come out of the album and ride the fast scanner, so every picture arrives as its own sharp file with no plastic over it. The album goes back together and comes home with you.
$4.20/page100+ page at $3.70 each
Album Page (larger than 8.5 x 11)A page too big for the glass takes two passes, so you get two high-resolution images covering the whole page. Photos stay exactly where they are.
$11.50/page100+ page at $11 each
Individual CropsOptional add-on for album pages. I will digitally crop and save each photo on the page as its own separate, high-resolution file.
$0.55/photo
Odd-Sized & Delicate ScanFor a certificate, a newspaper clipping, a mounted portrait, or anything too fragile or oddly shaped for the fast scanner. One careful pass on the glass. Album pages are priced by the page, not here.
$5.80
Slide ArchivalDetailed dust removal and exposure correction for standard 35mm formats.
$1.30/slide200+ slide at $1.05 each
Slide Label PhotosPhotographing the handwritten labels on slide mounts to preserve context and captions.
$0.55/photo
Negative ArchivalI scan each 35mm frame and invert it to a true-color image. Negatives need more hand correction than slides, so color, exposure, and dust are worked frame by frame.
$1.60/frame100+ frame at $1.30 each
120 Negative ArchivalEach frame off a 120 roll scanned at 2400 dpi and inverted to true colour. A 120 frame is five times the picture a 35mm frame is, and one strip fills the holder where 35mm gives twelve, so it takes about three times as long on the glass.
$2.35/frame100+ frame at $2.10 each
Photo RestorationI digitally mend rips, tears, and fading, bringing your family history back to life.
$10.50/photo
Life Celebration VideoA moving tribute for memorials or milestones. Includes scanning up to 100 loose photos and music.
$345/project

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any surprise fees?

No. The estimate I give you is what you pay. If I find anything unexpected, I reach out before touching it.

Do I have to do everything at once?

Not at all. You can start with one box, one tape, or one album and come back later with more. A job starts at $49, so if you only have the one tape, bring a few photos along and I'll scan those too. There's no obligation to do everything at once.

How is pricing determined?

I charge per item, not per hour. Photos, tapes, slides, and reels each have a set price per unit. Large collections get a bulk rate. See the table above for exact prices.

How does the free estimate work?

Drop off your collection and I'll sort through it and send you an itemized estimate by email, usually within 24 hours. You decide whether to proceed. I can also come to you and pick it up, which starts a job at $99 instead of $49. If you'd rather not drop off sight-unseen, send me a description or a photo and I can give you a ballpark.

Is there a discount for large or inherited collections?

Yes. Collections over a certain size qualify for a lower per-unit rate. The table above shows the bulk threshold and price for each service.

What is the guarantee?

Every job is guaranteed. If the quality of any scan, transfer, or restore isn't what I said it would be, I'll redo it at no charge. No arguments, no fine print.

Is there a minimum order?

A job starts at $49 when you bring your collection to me in Colwood. That is a starting price, not a fee, and most collections come in well above it. About 50 photos, or 40 slides, or a tape or a reel. If you would rather not make the trip, it is $99 and I come to you. I pick the collection up, take a proper look at everything you have, and bring your originals back when the work is done. And if your count lands just under a volume price, I bill you at the volume price, so you never pay more for bringing more. And they do not stop being looked after when the job is done. They stay safe, they are yours to download any time, and for your first year they are all up on your family's television, on me.

Safe Passage for Your History.
